COTOWA
A safety guidance system for hotels and inns, so that guests who fall ill or get hurt while travelling can ask for help in their own language.
How it works
Place the QR codes
QR codes for different purposes go in shared areas, guest rooms and near emergency exits.
Guests scan
Guests simply scan with their phone camera. There is no app to install.
Help, in their language
On-screen guidance takes them through calling for help, finding a hospital, showing medical details and translating.
Four functions
Emergency
Get through, fast
Call 119 (ambulance and fire), 110 (police) or the front desk. Ready-made phrases such as "Please call an ambulance" are shown in Japanese to show people nearby.
Hospital
Find medical help nearby
Find nearby hospitals, pharmacies, night-time emergency departments, hospitals with English support, police boxes and evacuation shelters on a map.
Medical ID
Show your medical details
Record blood type, allergies, medication, conditions, travel insurance and an emergency contact to show doctors and nurses. The information stays on the guest's own phone and is never sent to a server.
Translation
Describe your symptoms
Choose a phrase or type your own, and it is shown in Japanese for staff or medical professionals to read.
For the hotel (in development)
We are building a dashboard where hotels can see how COTOWA is used, which languages and functions guests choose, a history of emergency use and how often each QR code is scanned.
